The Best Video Games of 2010

Well, hello fellow Gaming junkies, Paul here and its that time of year, when everything gets cold, gifts are returned, pants are shit in, and Top 5 or 10 lists are shooting at you left and right! By now you've probably read tons of top end of the year lists, and you are probably gonna skip mine cause I'm not Morgan or Adam or Knightly, well then fuck you. Ha, just kidding, please don't close my page, sorry, I didn't mean to offend you, come back...I got Gifts! No I don't, but I got a great list! Well fellow gamers here is My top 5 games of 2010, these are games I beat the main quest to, and if you don't agree, suck it like X-Pac....here we GO!

5. Mafia II

I'm a sucker for story, plain and simple. Now Mafia II is not the greatest sandbox open world game, not by along shot, I mean GTA series blows this game out of the water, BUT..this game had story. I am a huge fan of Goodfellas and the Godfather series, so being put in the shoes of one of those made men was a shit load of fun. The game has it flaws, the handling of the cars is not all that great (but you are driving cars from the 40's and 50's) and some of the missions can be a bit tedious and difficult, very difficult. I just love the games charm and characters like Joe, your sidekick is one of the best characters to be in a video game in a long time, plus all twist and turns in the story are awesome. I looked forward to every cut scene as the storyline progressed. 2K Czech, I can't wait for Mafia III, just don't give me a half-assed story like the DLC Joe's missions, horrible.

4. Heavy Rain

While Growing up in the NES era I played games like Shadow Gate and Deja Vu, and even old Lucas arts games such as Day of the Tenticle and Monkey Island, so I love the whole choose your adventures/point and click games, and Heavy Rain brought this sense of nostalgia back for me. In Heavy Rain you play as 4 Characters, whose lives are intertwined and revolving around the Oragami killer, it plays out like a movie, each decision you do ultimately decides your fate, pretty cool huh? The graphics are phenomenal, some the facial expressions are that of a Pixar movie plus the eyes, my god are the eyes a selling point to me on how technology has advanced. I love how easy the game is to play, press R1 or move the joystick in a certain direction game play, but once again the story is go getter for me, I mean there are so many outcomes. Quaticdream is doing thing other developers only dream of...get it (bad pun?).

3. Call of Duty: Black Ops

I have never beat a Call of Duty game, except for Call of Duty 2. So many of you may say, Man Paul Modern Warfare 2 was better or even World at war is the shit! Well I never beat those, and multiplayer was always first in line for those titles. I have to say this though, once I started the single player campaign I really enjoyed the story. Paranoia, deception, fear, and action! My LORD THE ACTION! The set pieces were amazing and the in-game cut scenes were incredible, also voice work by Ed Harris, Gary Oldman, Ice Cube, and Sam Worthington helped sell the characters too. I enjoyed the multiplayer modes, including Zombie mode and all the Easter eggs hidden as well. Bravo Treyarch, bravo to you.

2. God of War III

Holy Shit! That's all I have to say, HOLY SHIT! This game had some of the most amazing graphics I have ever scene, I mean talk about cinematics becoming game play, we have finally made it. This had me in awe, from how epic the boss battles were to the story it self, and the gore, my god, So. Much. BLOOD. This game is brutal, Kratos had a arsenal to rip entrails out to smashing faces in, I loved the Hercules fight, face caved in.....enough said. I give high marks to Santa Monica Studios for putting out such a polished product, this game makes you want to own a PS3, as soon as you show a friend the power of it, they will buy a PS3, yes they will. Grade A shit right here, no joke.

1. Red Dead Redemption

Rockstar Games can do no wrong. I'm serious, I mean they have a great track record, they put 100% into everything they put out. The Houser brothers can write great dialogue and a great story that every player wants to know the outcome to, and this had a great one. From the beautiful landscapes to the awesome side missions, RDR had it all. I love the main character John Martson, he is up there with Niko and even Joe from Mafia II, all the quirky individuals you meet throughout this open world adventure is fucking spectacular. The game's multiplayer even threw me for a loop, great challenges and team matches made its appeal last longer. The soundtrack by Bill Elm and Woody Jackson is fucking bliss as well, great Sergio Leone inspired stuff all together. Rockstar I hope L.A. Noir lives up to the hype like RDR did, can't wait for Spring 2011.

Well there it is in a nutshell, Top 5, hope you enjoyed it. Next week the top 5 worst! but before I go here are a list of the runners up....GAME ON!

Dead Rising 2- Great follow up to the 2007 original.

Super Street fighter- New additions made it a great experience, plus not a bad price tag.

Epic Mickey- any Disney fans dream, great stuff Mr. Specter.

Fallout: New Vegas- a wonderful open world RPG, and I'm not really into those.

Alan Wake- Silent hill meets Resident evil- good scary stuff.
